EBOLA: A CASE IN INEQUALITY
“As the spread of the Ebola virus in West Africa shows, the importance of reducing inequality could not be more clear. The battle against the virus is a fight on many fronts -- human lives and health foremost among them. But the fight against Ebola is also a fight against inequality. The knowledge and infrastructure to treat the sick and contain the virus exists in high- and middle-income countries. However, over many years, we have failed to make these things accessible to low-income people in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. So now thousands of people in these countries are dying because, in the lottery of birth, they were born in the wrong place.”

The keynote speaker was Myra Wood, author of the new book Knit in New Directions: A Journey Into Creativity. Tracie and Barb are huge fans of Myra! Barb took a class on photographing your knits with Kellie Nuss
Tracie took a class on knitting with beads with Betsy Hershberg , author of Betsy Beads: Confessions of a Left-Brained Knitter
Tracie's bead sample, created in Betsy's class
Tracie and Barb both really missed Blue Moon Fiber Arts (because we wanted some Woobu and possibly some BFL Sport too) and Tess Designer Yarns (because we like to grope the Kitten and exclaim over their beautiful colors), who were not at Stitches this year :-(
Barb took a class on knitting socks in different stitch patterns with JC Briar, author of Charts Made Simple
Tracie took a class of special techniques with Anna Zilboorg, author ofMagnificent Mittens and Knitting For Anarchists
a beautiful book written by another mother-daughter team!
Thank you to everyone who came to our Podcaster/Listener Meet-Up - it was great to see you all!
